Patients may request to have a medical check up every 3-5 years if they have not been seen during that time. Appointments can be made with a Practice Nurse. If the patient is 75 or over, this can be yearly and the consultation can take place in the home of the patient where, in the reasonable opinion of the GP this would be appropriate.

Minor Surgical Procedures
Undertaken by the doctors (by appointment) – for example, removal of skin lesions.
Many minor injuries may be dealt with at the surgery but some will be referred on to the Minor Injuries’ Unit at Malton Hospital or an Accident & Emergency Department. There is not always a doctor on site at Helmsley Medical Centre, we may be out on visits or at necessary meetings - please telephone to check rather than assuming immediate care is available. Our staff will be able to advise you as to the best place to go for appropriate treatment.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.
There is further information about countries and vaccinations required on the links below
It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required for the Practice Nurse to give you the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.
Travel Health Questionnaire
To help us offer the appropriate advice, please fill out the online form before coming to see the nurse.
Travelling in Europe
If you are travelling to Europe the EU has published useful information for travellers on the European website.
Some services provided are not covered under our General Medical Services contract with the NHS and therefore attract charges. Examples include the following:
The fees charged are based on the British Medical Association (BMA) suggested scales and our Receptionists and Secretaries will be happy to advise you about them along with appointment availability.
We offer FREE CHLAMYDIA TESTS through the practice. Please come into the surgery and collect a kit from the box in the front porch or one of the patient toilets. Instructions are included in the pack.
There is a wealth of information regarding contraceptive methods and sexual health advice on the Family Planning Association website.
